MESSAGE FROM DAME JUDI DENCH:

Thank you all so very much for your messages of goodwill on the First Night of The Breath of Life.  I was overwhelmed by your kindness and very much appreciated it that so many of you were thinking of me.  The play is doing very well and I'm sure I have already met some of you at one of the performances.  I send good wishes to you all, and my thanks again,
Judi Dench

TO DAME JUDI DENCH

OPENING NIGHT WISHES, WITH LOVE FROM AFAR.

The undersigned group of your admirers got together via e-mail to send our hearts to the Theatre Royal Haymarket tonight. We wish you and Dame Maggie great success in this new adventure. Triumph is a "given" as you share the stage again after many years, this time as bona fide "Legends." Word is that "The Breath of Life" is more than worth the wait.

The luckiest and most determined among us are crossing the Atlantic (and the Pacific) to see for ourselves. The rest are just crossing our fingers in the hope that you will bring the production to Broadway one day. We know you are the toast of London tonight. Next stop New York...please.

Compiled by Lily (lilywinter@hotmail.com), upstate New York, for the following:

To Judi Dench, the "Green Fairy."

Your four-year old fan, Olivia Bond and her grandmother, Patsy Allen, send love to you on your opening night of Breath of Life. We know you will be wonderful.

Hi Judi,

I did send you a card but in case you don't receive it I will take the opportunity to send you this message.

I just read a review from one of your fans from California. She saw it on Oct. 4 and really liked it. It sounds great. You are the best.

I hope everyone likes the play. I hope you get good reviews. I hope everyone brings cough drops so they don't have to cough.

I will be thinking of you. It will be afternoon here while the play is going on.

Take care and have a glass of champagne for me after the play.

With great affection,

Shirley Bivins-- Mercersburg, Pennsylvania

To Dame Judi and Dame Maggie,

Here's to a fabulous opening night.

When I bought my ticket, I specified a location and said, "any date will do." Be careful what you ask for. I now have a good seat on the USA's Thanksgiving eve. This year my 43rd wedding anniversary falls on Thanksgiving Day. My husband was incredibly understanding (he doesn't fly). He said those three little magic words "Go to London." We'll celebrate later.

So, thanks for helping me to get out of cooking yet another turkey dinner and more thanks for giving me the pleasure of having Breath of Life (definitely NOT a "turkey") as one of my Thanksgiving blessings. Break a drumstick and have a great run!

Janet L -- Queensbury, New York

*************************

Dear Judi, Dear Maggie,

Like they say here in Belgium: "Lots of toi, toi, toi for the opening night!!"

Best wishes,

Thomas Van der Spiegel--Belgium

*************************

Dear Dame Judi,

I wish you a lovely evening tonight and hope you will be pleased with the performance. If You are pleased, we will all be.

I have tried to see all of your work since The Year of the Cat, which was brilliant. On stage, your performance in Amy's View was enchanting and surely the best acting I have ever seen.

Your interview in the National Theatre a few weeks ago was very much enjoyed by everyone and made us look forward to Breath of Life even more.

I bought your biography (again) to have it signed but the queue started in the cellar and ended where you sat. It must have been an exhausting day for you.

I am looking forward very much to Breath of Life. I will see it tomorrow (my birthday treat to myself) and have also booked tickets for December--just in case it is too good to see only once. Five of my friends will be there for the Saturday matinee. I will try to book tickets for my parents who will be visiting from Amsterdam at the end of November.

Is a better cast than you and Dame Maggie Smith imaginable?

With warmest regards,

Frederik Ribbink-- London

*************************

Dear Dame Maggie Smith,

I first saw you in Sister Act and you did an excellent job. I have seen Tea with Mussolini and again you are to be congratulated.

I have been purchasing every movie that I can find of you. Keep up the good work and may God bless you. Wishing you a long and healthy life.

Beatrice S. Kerouac-- Nashua, New Hampshire

*************************

My dear Dame Judi,

Because of watching you on As Time Goes By, I have become a new and better 69 year old senior. You bring love and laughter to my husband and I. We cannot help ourselves when we watch your show to break out in loud laughter. Before that, there was not much for us to enjoy laughter. I wish to felicitate you on all of your accomplishments. Knowing you via television has brought a new interest in my life. Through the web, I have been fortunate enough to purchase approximately 25 of your videos. What an outstanding performance you gave in Iris and also The Shipping News. I wish you the best in your future undertakings and I hope you have a long and healthy life. I pray to God that all is well with you and your loved ones. My life-long dream is to sometime see you in person. Are you planning to come to the United States? My health and finances prevent me from going to England. My sincerest congratulations.

Beatrice S. Kerouac--Nashua, New Hampshire

*************************

Dame Judi,

Two of your most ardent admirers here in the colonies want to wish you all manner of success with the opening of Breath of Life. Unfortunately, we can't be there to experience first hand another of your triumphs--instead, we shall cozy up here for another episode of As Time Goes By, which has become the highlight of our Saturday evenings. Thank you so much for sharing your magnificent talent with an appreciative world.

Ray and Dona Miller-- Spokane, Washington

*************************

"Break a Leg" AS WE SAY IN THE USA. To Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith. Wish I could be there to see it. I am a member of the Drumright Community Players. Just finished a play last week myself.

Robin Brown-- Drumright, Oklahoma

*************************

Dear Dame Judi,

We are visiting London and will be seeing The Breath of Life (matinee 11th December) on our first day. My husband (who's English) and I both enjoy and admire the film and television performances we have seen over the years and are both thrilled to be seeing a live performance. Thank you for the happiness you have brought us. Best wishes.

Ellen and Kevin Hubbard--Borger, Texas

*************************

Miss Dench,

My best wishes for a wonderful opening night and a very successful run. I only wish that I didn't live across the ocean, as I would have stood in line forever for a ticket (sigh).

Also, have some fun doing the play. You deserve it.

Gail Frayer-- Norwich, New York

*************************

Hi,

Break two legs.

Wish you both the best.

Sue

*************************

Judi and Maggie,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be than there tonight with the two of you. In fact, if I ever get the chance to see either of you live on the stage, I'm sure I will die happy.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck here in Austin, Texas, tending to my job, my husband, daughters, cats, dogs--without enough money left over to even get to New York, much less London. So I just want you to know you'll be in my thoughts and prayers tonight (which will be today where I am)--break a leg.

Jeanie Spencer-- Round Rock, Texas

*************************

Dear Dame Judi,

You will be brilliant, as always! "Break a leg," and be sure to bring the show to Broadway so we Americans can enjoy it too.

Nancy M. Bischoff, Copyeditor, Bookspan-- Garden City, New York

*************************

Miss Dench,

By the time you read this, I will have already seen the play as I'm leaving for London today and will see the show October 11. I also saw The Royal Family last year so I'm really looking forward to seeing you on the stage once again. I hope the show comes to New York so more Americans can enjoy your talent and presence. Best wishes.

Cindy Lou Fiorina--Washington, DC

*************************

OMG, not only Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith two of Britain's greatest, they are two of the WORLD's greatest actresses. I love them both and have seen everything they've been in. To have them both together is a gift from heaven!! Break a leg!!!!!

Fondly,

William Becraft--Indianapolis, Indiana

*************************

Dame Judi,

I just wanted to say thank you for being an inspiration, someone to look up to and admire for who they are. I know that I don't know you but I know you are a wonderful person. Thank you. Remember to smile. God loves you.

Michelle Sommerfeld--Oxford, Mississippi

We All Stand United

*************************

To Dames Judi and Maggie,

Have a great opening night. Have a marvelous time at the opening night party and try to have fun during the whole run of the play. If you ever have a tough moment before, during or after the play, keep repeating to yourselves "I love live theatre, I love live theatre, I love live theatre."

From a stage technician,

Angela Fayerweather

*************************

To Dame Judi,

You give your best to us, for which we are more grateful than you can imagine. In return, we give you our best wishes for a run that will be as fulfilling for you as it will be memorable for us.

Ablake

*************************

Just know you two will wow them all Tuesday evening. I had the good fortune to attend a preview performance October 7 and want to thank you for the magical moments you have added to my theatre experiences.

Patricia Gray-- Williamsburg, Virginia

*************************

To Judi Dench-

If only all of your US fans could be there to cheer you on. We love you and know that opening night will be grand!!

I must be one of your biggest fans.

Kathy--Pennsylvania

*************************

Dear Dame Judi,

This note is to wish you the very best for your play Breath of Life. You have brought such pleasure into our homes with your long-running series As Time Goes By as well as many evenings of fine movie going with one after another of excellent films. We regret that we cannot get to see you in person on stage. Perhaps the play will eventually get to New York and we Canadians can get to see it there.

A great disappointment for many of your followers is that As Time Goes By is coming to an end. When the curtain falls on the final one I know that the fans of Geoffrey Palmer and yourself will be sad. Could Bob Larbey not write some more episodes? I'm certain that your busy schedule has something to do with the series coming to an end. As an alternative, what about a series centers on Judy, Alistair and Sandy with occasional drop-ins from Jean and Lionel? All the characters are delicious. Anything to keep the series going. It rates away above any other British comedy series on PBS in Canada and the USA.

"Break a Leg" on Tuesday night. We will be thinking of you with affection.

Diana McLeod--Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

*************************

Dear Judi,

My very best wishes to you on opening night! I am looking forward to seeing you on the 17th and the 18th. Take care, have fun and pray the "dreaded black glove" does not turn up! Better yet, maybe Billy Connolly will send you a farting horse to get you laughing!!! See you in London!

Kathy Cumberledge-- Salt Lake City, Utah

For Triguna, my little angel-Soar High, Soar Free!

*************************

Dear Judi and Maggie:

The best of luck to you both or as they say "break a leg." Will be seeing you both on the 18th of October.

Sadie Stasolla-- Brooklyn, New York

*************************

Dear Judi,

The lines are rehearsed,

The stage is set,

The house is sold out,

The West End is buzzing,

The DAME is back!

Wishing you great success in Breath of Life, as well as best wishes and good thoughts for everything in your future.

With love and best regards from one of your many many fans in the United States.

Amy Carrow-- Lansing, Michigan

*************************

Dames Judi and Maggie-

I was fortunate enough to have been able to see Breath of Life twice on a recent visit to London. The play was wonderful! Even though they are difficult roles, you both managed them with humor, confidence and a "tug at the heart." I know that your opening night will go like gangbusters. All the best to both of you for the run of the play. Please consider bringing it to New York.

Thanks again for a wonderful experience.

Pat McKenna-- Seattle, Washington

**********************

To Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith:

Since pre-opening ticket sales to Breath of Life broke all kinds of records, saying "Break a leg" seems inadequate...so break four legs.

At the Haymarket only in spirit on opening night, I'm eagerly awaiting my chance to witness show business history on November 6 and 7. Whoever said, "Money can't buy happiness" obviously never had the chance to see both of you "on the ice" at the same time.

Sandy Hudson-- Westfield, Indiana

*************************

Dame Judi on your Opening Night:

Have a glorious opening! Presume you will be "testing the ice", as usual-but I know you will be wonderful as always. Unfortunately, I won't get to see you until October 21 and am looking forward to that night.

With love and respect,

Dolores Lukascik-- Las Vegas, Nevada

*************************

Thank you, Dame Judi, for sharing your magnificent gifts with the world. Those of us who may never be able to attend a performance of yours in person are grateful to live in an age where we can be engaged by your film and TV work. Nevertheless, we are with you in spirit on that far away stage and fervently wish for you a joy-filled run of the play!

Susan Clark Siefferman-- Decatur, Illinois
