"M" Scoops from DAD

Spoiler Warning

Plot Details of the Scenes that "M" Appears In

Betrayed, Captured, Abandoned

These are the three themes throughout the film.
And it appears that "M" is, in part, responsible for the
"broken and beaten Bond".

Here's how the story begins ...

Northern Korean General Moon is suspicious that his son, Colonel Moon, is involved in illegal activities that could upset the delicate peace between north and south.  MI6 is called in to investigate and M orders Bond (Pierce Brosnan) to infiltrate Colonel Moon's (Will Yun Lee) team of crack mercenaries at a Korean demilitarized zone.  As a part of this investigation 007 has gone undercover with the alias Mr. Van Beere. Bond, under his guise, is sent to conduct a weapons deal with Colonel Moon - involving a substantial amount of diamonds held in a silver brief case.  Arriving in true Bond style, the film opens with Bond surfing the huge waves surrounding the Korean coastline.  Upon arriving in the demilitarized zone "Van Beere" (007) is greeted by Colonel Moon's Korean troops, and his henchman General Zao. When the deal breaks down and Bond's real intentions are discovered, Bond's getaway helicopter is blown up and he is forced to attempts an escape by other means.   The silver briefcase that holds the diamonds has been fitted with an explosive device by Q-Branch. 007 detonates the case and the diamonds are sent flying through the air into Zao's face, and also hitting some of Moon's henchmen. The distraction gives Bond time to spot a military hovercraft nearby. A chase entails through the American controlled DMZ as he commandeers the nearby hovercraft to make his escape from the mayhem.  Some of Moon's small army are not far behind the action as they take control of Moon's horde of super cars and hovercraft and charge across the peninsula.  Zao is close behind however, and matches Bond turn for turn, jump for jump. 007 falls prey to his rival at a gate on the border between North and South Korea, and Zao captures Bond and prepares to return him to the hands of his master, Colonel Moon.  Colonel Moon, not too happy with MI6's investigations in to his activities, begins to torture and interrogate Bond as the title sequence begins ....

M:  Your freedom came at too high a price ...

... After three months of intense interrogation and torture by Colonel Moon's men, Bond is left battered and bruised.  But Colonel Moon's peace loving father forces his son to hand agent 007 back when a negotiation takes place on the border between North and South Korea.  Damian Falco, chief of the NSA will meet 007 in the US controlled demilitarized zone. Surrounded by US troops, Falco and his agents hardly recognize Bond as he emerges from his captors. Also waiting to meet Bond is Charles Robinson, MI6 chief of staff.  The hand-over takes place on a bridge that separates North and South Korea. On the North side, General Moon lets Bond walk to freedom, towards the NSA and US troops and MI6 aides who are waiting on the South side.  As Bond has been missing for three months, it is possible that MI6 have listed him as missing in action. 007 must now discover who betrayed him and informed Moon of his identity during the weapons deal sting operation.  Robinson whisks Bond away from the scene to a nearby Royal Navy ship where M is waiting to debrief him. Not liking what he hears, an enormous argument breaks out.  Bond decides to go it alone, jumps ship, and swims back to the harbor ...

M:  Well, it seems you have become useful again ...

... After Bond makes some discoveries about Graves at Blades Club, one question still remains, who betrayed him and tipped Moon off as to his intentions, and to his fake identity of Van Beere the weapons dealer?  The truth is a little too close to home. M was aware of his imminent capture and took no action to prevent it. After his swift exit from the briefing after his release in North Korea, Bond comes back to MI6 to face the music.  Bond and M meet in the secret MI6 tube station where M slams Bond that he shouldn't be expecting an apology for being hung out to dry in Korea. M orders Bond to follow up the connection between Graves and Moon in Iceland and Bond leaves the meeting with a steely stare.  After Bond's meeting with M concludes, he visits Q who has 007's new vehicle ready and waiting for him. Q (John Cleese) runs through the latest additions and gadgets, which include self-targeting machine guns mounting in the bonnet of the new Aston Martin Vanquish. Bond gets behind the wheel and drives the Vanquish out through the secret exit, onto the streets of Vauxhall Cross, London ...

M:  Tell me what you know of James Bond ...

... Meanwhile, MI6 agent Miranda Frost is being briefed by M in her office. Frost is questioned about her knowledge of Bond, and after satisfying herself that Frost is up for the job, M orders her to keep a close eye on Bond in Iceland during her deep cover work as Gustav Graves` PR assistant and personal trainer. Frost is clearly worried that Bond may blow her cover with Graves, and unwillingly accepts the assignment ...

Q:  I'm afraid shooting the boss counts as a fail ...

... Following his 3 months in Korea, Bond has to undergo a training exercise to prove to his superiors that he still has the edge. Q-Branch have installed the latest in virtual reality simulation to test their agents. A staged terrorist attack takes place in the VR MI6, and Bond has to hunt down the gunmen. Chasing them down to M's office, VR Robinson is killed by the terrorists before Bond can clear the way, to see M amongst a fire fight.  Thinking quickly, Bond shoots M in the shoulder to drop her to the floor and away from the crossfire. The VR simulation freezes as Q explains that Bond's performance wasn't quite within the program parameters ...
